Chandigarh : Chandigarh residents beware. Police say cheats based in Pakistan are calling up people here and trying to get hold of their personal financial details.
Police have received many complaints in the last few weeks of people getting a call from numbers with a +92 code, with the caller telling them they had won huge prize money and seeking their personal financial details.
“Gullible people are being allured on the pretext that they have won a lottery or prize money and they are told to divulge their personal details pertaining to their bank accounts. After inquiry we found that those calls were made from some part of Pakistan whereas the caller had said they were based in India,” S.S. Srivastava, senior superintendent of police, told IANS.
“There are some professional cheats who pose as employees of different international companies. They used to say their company has selected some numbers for a prize amount and they further asked for personal information.”
However, Chandigarh police have not put any number on surveillance.
“Our duty is to spread awareness and educate people and we are doing this,” pointed out Srivastava.
