The bureaucrat-turned-politician who was elected to the Lok Sabha for three consecutive terms, from 1998 to 2009, announced he was quitting at a press conference here.

“The RSS is physically controlling the Bharatiya Janata Party. There is no character left with the RSS-deputed leaders of the BJP,” Swain said.

Swain alleged that the RSS leadership in the state promoted those people in his parliamentary constituency in Balasore who had once attacked his house. “They are also controlling the party affairs in Delhi,” he said.

Swain said he will not join any other party and form his own regional party soon.
