BSP MLA’s son arrested for firing in Delhi bar

New Delhi, Dec 23 (IANS) The son of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator from Uttar Pradesh was arrested Wednesday evening for opening fire at the lush Mocha Bar in south Delhi after an argument with the manager earlier in the day.

“We have arrested Vivek Singh. We have also recovered the revolver,” Additional Commissioner of Police (southeast Delhi) Virender Singh, who had earlier denied reports of the firing, told IANS.

Vivek Singh, the son of BSP legislator Chander Bir Singh, fired at the manager in Mocha Bar in south Delhi.

“The bullet missed the manager and hit a wooden plank. Vivek fled the place,” he said. The Mocha Bar is a bar-cum-cafe at the busy Nehru Place commercial centre.

Police said Vivek’s sister along with two of her friends had visited the place for dinner late Tuesday. She reportedly lost her wallet and went to inquire about it around 11.45 a.m. Wednesday. She was accompanied by Vivek and his wife.

“As Vivek and his wife waited in their car outside the bar, his sister went inside. She had a heated argument with the bar manager who denied finding the wallet. She went outside and told her brother about the incident,” the police officer said.

“Vivek, along with his wife and sister, then went inside and had a scuffle with the manager. Vivek pulled out a gun and fired at him. He fled the place leaving his sister and wife in the bar,” he added.

Police said the women were detained for questioning. Initially, they did not cooperate with the police and denied knowing Vivek.

“We have registered a case of attempt to murder against him.”

The Mocha Bar staff were not available for comments.
