Islamabad : At least 16 militants were killed and many others injured in a gun battle with the security forces in Pakistan’s northwestern Swat Valley, the military said Sunday.
Security forces continued their operation (since Saturday) in Charbagh area in the Swat Valley and attacked suspected hideouts of militants, a statement issued by the military said.
The security forces have consolidated their hold over Charbagh, which was considered to be a stronghold of the hardened militants. Sixteen militants were killed and many others injured in the operation, the statement added.
A soldier was killed and two others wounded, while five suspected militants were arrested in the operation, it said.
In a separate incident, one police constable was shot dead by militants after he was abducted from his home Saturday night.
The security forces have urged the public to cooperate in the fight against terrorism.
