New Delhi : All the 12 evening courts opened in the three district courts in the national capital to handle cheque bounce cases of less than Rs.25,000 began functioning Monday.
With this the total number of evening courts functioning in the five district courts in the national capital is now 18.
Delhi High Court Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah presided over the inauguration function held at Tis Hazari courts complex along with other judicial officers.
The 12 evening courts began functioning at Dwarka, Rohini and Tis Hazari from Monday.
After the success of evening courts at Patiala House and Karkardooma court complex, the Delhi High Court planned to start 12 more evening courts at the three other district courts.
“The success of evening courts can be gauged from the fact that more than 60 percent cases listed before them have been disposed of,” Shah said.
The courts will function from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on all working days.
Each court will be headed by a metropolitan magistrate working on rotational basis.
