New Delhi : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday said he was simply “discharging his duties” while officiating in place of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is recuperating after a heart surgery.
Asked at CNN-IBN’s ‘Indian of the Year’ awards function about his status now since he is discharging the duties of the prime minister, the senior Congress leader quipped: “Simply I am discharging duties, neither I am officiating nor acting, neither de-jure nor de-facto.”
Under the constitution of the country, there can be only one prime minister, he said. But “the prime minister can delegate some responsibility to his colleagues and I am doing exactly that.”
