Lucknow : A police officer Tuesday shot himself with a service rifle in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Sub-inspector Rajendra Singh killed himself at the Magora police station in Mathura, about 300 km from here.
“We have learnt that Rajendra Singh instructed a constable to go out and leave his rifle at the police station. When the constable returned, he found Rajendra Singh lying in a pool of blood,” police inspector Tej Singh told IANS on telephone.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar said a probe will be ordered to ascertain the reason behind his death.
“We will definitely probe if any pressure mounted by the senior officials drove Rajendra Singh to take such an extreme step,” he added.
