Vajpayee, 85, was admitted to the VIP Intensive Care Unit in AIIMS in the national capital at about 10 p.m. Tuesday after he complained of difficulty in breathing.

As many as 51 party workers participated in the ceremony at a temple in the state capital’s New Market area.

The participants prayed for the well being of the senior ailing leader and also held placards reading ‘Atalji Shatayu Ho’ (May Atal(ji) live 100 years) and ‘Atalji Dirghayu Ho’ (Long Live Atal[ji]).

“We will continue to pray to the almighty for the well being of Atalji till he is back home hale and hearty,” BJP’s district secretary Anil Agarwal said.

Doctors in Delhi said that Vajpayee’s condition was better. “Vajpayee is stable and had a restful right. The chest congestion is less but he will stay in the hospital for few more days,” AIIMS Medical Superintendent D.K. Sharma told IANS.

A multi-disciplinary team of doctors led by Dr. Randeep Guleria, his personal physician and head of medicine in AIIMS, is monitoring Vajpayee.
