Islamabad : Police in the Pakistani northwestern city of Peshawar said they killed nine militants and foiled their attempt to kidnap a person.
Three police men were also injured, one of them critically, in the clash, police said.
The armed militants arrived in vehicles at Bazid Khel neighbourhood, an area in the outskirts of Peshawar, early morning and tried to kidnap a person.
The police, already on alert in view of the growing incidents of kidnappings in Peshawar, encountered the militants. Both sides exchanged fire, leaving nine militants dead, a police officer said.
The three injured policemen were rushed to the city’s Lady Reading Hospital.
Doctors listed one of the injured, who had received bullet at head, in critical condition.
The security forces launched search in the area to figure out whether there is any ore militants hiding there.
It was not clear which group the militants belonged to and the police nerely described them as “militants.”
The police often accuse militants of being behind kidnappings of people to raise ‘funds’ for running their network.
