New Delhi : Days after security agencies were thrown into a tizzy at the capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport following the disruptive behaviour of an air passenger, the response mechanism of various organisations involved in aviation security was reviewed Saturday at a meeting called by Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrashekhar. At the meeting it was decided that all civil airports across the country should have regular emergency drills and briefing programmes for concerned agencies to handle emergency situations.
On Feb 1, an IndiGo flight had an emergency landing at Delhi airport after a passenger threatened the crew members.
After deliberations with agencies concerned, it was decided that standard operating procedures (SOPs) of all concerned agencies be updated for faster and effective response.
Some of the other decisions taken included streamlining information and decision-making process, maintaining airports’ infrastructure in operational readiness at all times and special training for pilots and cabin crew of all airlines to handle emergency situations.
The meeting was attended by secretaries in the ministries of home, defence, civil aviation, external affairs, cabinet secretariat, and senior officers of the paramilitary forces.
