Bomb explosion kills 4 including 2 U.S. advisors in S Afghanistan

KABUL : Four persons including two U.S. advisors were killed as a remote-controlled bomb exploded in Nadalid district of Helmand province in south Afghanistan on Sunday, Kamaludin Khan, deputy to provincial police of Helmand province said.

“The police found a mine in Nadlai district at 10:00 a.m. local time (0530 GMT) when police and American advisers went to the site to defuse it and suddenly it was exploded by remote control killing four persons including two American advisers, their local interpreter and a police,” khan told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, U.S.-led Coalition forces confirmed that they were aware of the incident in a statement issued here later on the day, but adding “currently details about how many individuals may have been injured or killed is unconfirmed.”

Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, the purported Taliban spokesman, said that Taliban took the responsibility for the explosion.

Conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency claimed over 5,000 peoples’ lives in the country in 2008.
