New Delhi : Dismissing a student’s appeal against his institute for not getting him a job after the completion of his course, a consumer court here said employment depends on the merits of a student.
The Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission headed by Justice J.D. Kapoor last week dismissed the petition of Sabir Khan, who had pursued a computer diploma course at the Delhi Institute of Computer Sciences. The judge pointed out that no written assurance about job prospects was given at the time of enrolment.
Khan had joined a diploma course in multimedia at the Institute in Preet Vihar in 2005 and deposited a fee of Rs.11,000.
Khan alleged in his plea that at the time of admission the institute had told him that he will become a computer operator in six months, a graphic designer after nine months, an animator in a year and earn about Rs.30,000 per month. He also claimed that he was promised a a job after the completion of the course.
The institute replied that the complaint was baseless and meant to extract money.
“It appears that appellant (Khan) has filed the complaint for not having been provided the job. Unless and until there is a written assurance given by the institute for placement and providing the job, it is never assured. Employment depends on the merits of the candidate,” Kapoor said while dismissing the petition.
