New Delhi : Jovial, pretty, intelligent and amiable – that is how Nithari neighbours remember 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar, who was raped and brutally murdered by businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and his domestic help Surinder Koli four years ago.
“Rimpa was very pretty and amiable. She used to come to my house and was very talkative. I was shocked after she went missing in 2005,” said Deepali Mundka, Rimpa’s neighbour.
“Now all of us are happy with the court sentencing her murderers to death,” she said.
Rimpa lived with her parents and four younger siblings in a single room of a dilapidated three-storeyed building in Nithari village, adjacent to Noida’s Sector 31.
Kusum, who runs a small grocery shop in the area, recalled: “Rimpa was a very responsible girl and would do her chores everyday. She would come here to buy day-to-day things and had a wonderful smile.”
A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Friday sentenced Pandher and Koli to death for the rape and murder of Rimpa Haldar.
