Bhubaneswar : At least three passengers were killed and over a dozen injured after the Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express was derailed Friday evening near the Jajpur Road railway station in Orissa, an official said.
“At least 14 coaches were derailed and at least three people were killed. The injured were admitted to the hospital,” East Coast Railway chief public relation officer J.P. Mishra told IANS.
The rescue and relief operation was on, he said.
“Two relief trains are on their way to the spot from the Khurdha Road and Bhadrak railway stations. Our priority is now to rescue survivors,” a senior district administrative official said.
He added that a number of people could be trapped under mangled coaches.
Senior railway and district officials rushed to the spot, some 120 km from here, for relief and rescue operation.
