A book on Batla House encounter released

New Delhi: Today is February 14, Valentine’s Day that is celebrated by youths as the day of love. The day has been chosen to release a book on Batla House encounter – the encounter whose basis was hatred for a community, said Fasih Choudhary, author of the book Encounter Batla House.

Author, poet and scriptwriter Choudhary said hatred cannot help in eliminating terrorism. The 103-page book, released today at India Islamic Cultural Centre in New Delhi, raises questions over the counter in which two terror suspects were killed on September 19, 2008 at L-18 in Batla House locality of Jamia Nagar area. Similar questions have been raised by many human rights groups and print and electronic media – the circumstances in which inspector M C Sharma got bullet injuries and he died later and how the two suspects as the police claimed jumped off the building.

“The aim behind writing this book is that the killers are brought to justice and victims get justice. The demand for judicial enquiry is not going to help in this regard. Only judiciary can give justice and this will be possible only after an FIR is filed by the family of those killed in the encounter against the policemen involved,” says the author in the beginning of the book.

The book seems to be based on revelations already made in the media particularly Urdu Roznama Rashtriya Sahara. The author says he wrote the book in 15 days when he was on bed rest following a leg injury.

The book launch program featured actor Raza Murad, Supreme Court lawyers Wasi Ahmad Nomani and Nandita Haksar, journalists Amresh Mishra and M. Hasnain and poet Malik Zada Jawed.
