Haryana policeman suspended for beating up couple

By IANS,

Jind (Haryana) : A Haryana police official accused of beating up a young couple after dragging them out of a house was suspended here Saturday, the police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajiv Deswal has been asked to conduct a departmental inquiry and necessary action will be taken against the accused police official once the inquiry is over, the police said.

Sub-inspector, Moola Ram has been suspended with immediate effect, while inquiry would be conducted into the role of the other concerned policeman, the police added.

The college going couple in their early twenties had gone to meet a common friend at his house on Rohtak Road in Jind district Friday, around 200 km from state capital Chandigarh, the police said.

Their friend left the couple alone in the house and went out for some work. The neighbours then bolted the house from outside and called the police.

According to one of the eyewitnesses, “two police officials – one a sub-inspector and the other an assistant sub-inspector reached the spot and dragged the couple out of the house. There was no female police official and the policemen mercilessly beat the couple in the middle of the road without questioning them.”

“Our investigations are on and we will do it in a fair manner. We will question both the boy and the girl as well as their friend and the police officials before reaching any conclusion,” Deswal said.
