Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor work to start soon

New Delhi : The construction work on the 1,483-km dedicated freight corridor, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), will start soon, a union minister said here Tuesday.

The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corp (DMICDC), the implementing agency for the project, has appointed consultants for preparing a detailed plan for the project, Minister of State for Industry Ashwani Kumar said in parliament.

The corridor will pass through Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and the National Capital Region (NCR) with end terminals at Dadri in the NCR and Jawaharlal Nehru Port near Mumbai.

The project aims to double the employment potential, triple the industrial output and quadruple exports from the region in five years.

India and Japan have signed a deal to build the DMIC at a proposed investment of $90 billion.
