New Delhi : A man convicted of killing his 16-month-old daughter was awarded life term by a city court Thursday.
Additional Sessions Judge Alok Agarwal sentenced Om Prakash, 40, to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.2,000 for killing his daughter on Nov 25, 2004.
Om Prakash first hit a liquor bottle on the child’s head and then dashed her against a wall.
His estranged wife Geeta filed the complaint with the police who registered a murder case against him. He was arrested a day later.
The prosecution said that Om Prakash murdered his daughter while he was having a heated argument with his wife.
“The accused first hit her head with a liquor bottle and when it did not bring the desired result, he dashed her hard against a wall. The child started bleeding profusely and died within hours,” the prosecution told the court and sought capital punishment for him.
However, Om Prakash’s counsel argued that the act was not intentional and it was on the spur of the moment that he committed such an offence.
The defence also alleged that Geeta had an extramarital affair, which led to frequent disputes between the two.
