Dhaka : United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Ban Ki moon Thursday congratulated Zillur Rahman for becoming 19th President of Bangladesh.
In a letter to President Zillur, the UNSG said Bangladesh has moved one step forward in the path of democracy following peaceful general elections of Dec 29, held after seven years.
He assured highest cooperation to the President of Bangladesh, a press release of Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations said.
Ban Ki moon expressed full support to the Bangladesh government in fulfilling its commitment to democracy and good governance.
He termed Bangladesh’s partnership with the UN in different issues as invaluable.
Ban Ki moon hoped country’s existing close relationship with the UN would be strengthened further, which was established in 1974.
