Markets slip further

Mumbai : Indian equities markets slipped further into the red Friday about 90 minutes before trade ended, with a key index trading almost three percent below its previous close.

The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex), which opened at 8,943.78 points, was at 8,773.7 points around this time, reflecting a decrease of 268.93 points or 2.97 percent from its previous close.

At the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was at 2,711.85 points, 2.78 percent down from its last close of 2,789.35.

The BSE midcap index was 1.98 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap index was down 1.77 percent.
