Markets start in the red, Sensex below 9,000

Mumbai : Indian equities markets were off to a weak start Friday with a key index opening lower than its last closing figure.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened at 8,943.78 points, lower than its 9,042.63 point close Thursday. About 10 minutes into trade, it was at 8,922.28 points, 1.33 percent or 120.35 points lower higher than its previous close.

At the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was at 2,754.35 points, 1.25 percent down from its last close of 2,789.35.

The BSE midcap index was 0.74 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap index was down 0.44 percent.
