Religious leaders oppose violence in northwestern parts of country

Islamabad : The Pakistani religious leaders on Friday strongly condemned the suicide attack in northwestern city of D I Khan killing at least 30 people, and said that a conspiracy is being hatched to light the fire of sectarianism.

Talking to IRNA they called upon the people to foil the designs of those elements who are trying to divide Muslims of Pakistan.

According to reports, a suicide blast occurred near Shia mosque when hundreds of people were attending the funeral procession of a person Sher Zaman, who was shot dead in a target killing incident.

Army has taken the control of the city due to deteriorating law and order situation and curfew has been imposed in the city.

According to an official Mohsin Shah, angry mob started damaging the property and carried out intense firing after which curfew has been imposed.

The curfew would remain continued for two to three days more. Shoot-at-sight orders have been issued to control the situation.

The number of suicide attacks and casualties in Pakistan has steadily risen over the past several months.

Islami Tehreek leader Allama Abdul Jalil Naqvi expressing his views said that terrorism has become a permanent feature in NWFP province and the provincial government has failed to control the activities of the militants.

“There are some elements who are trying to disturb the peace of the area”, he added.

Jalil Naqvi said that Muslims belonging to all the sects are united in Pakistan but there are some elements who are trying to light the fire sectarianism

“We will not allow these terrorist elements to accomplish their evil designs and divide the Muslims of Dera Ismail Khan and other areas of the country”, vowed Jalil Naqvi.

Central Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan said that Provincial government has failed to control the law and order situation of the major parts of the province.

He made it clear that all the residents of Dera Ismail Khan are united despite their religious beliefs.

He was of the view said that there is a foreign hand behind this unrest in the area. He urged the government to curb the activities of conspirators.

Munawar Hassan said that under a preplanned strategy the peace of the whole area is being disturbed.

He said that the whole NWFP has become a victim of the poor law and order situation which is unfortunate.

“The law and order situation in the area is created on the will of the United States”, Munawar Hassan opined.
