Karachi : Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir are among the five reserves added to the Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka that begins in Lahore Sunday.
Chief selector Abdul Qadir announced that five players, left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir, all-rounder Shahid Afridi, pacer Abdul Rauf, spinner Saeed Ajmal and opener Nasir Jamshed have been selected as reserve players for the Lahore Test.
“We want to give more options to the team management for the Lahore Test,” said Qadir, a former Pakistan Test leg-spinner.
Pakistan came under fire for its poor bowling performance in the first Test in Karachi which is heading for a draw after Pakistan replied to Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 644-7 declared with a 765-6 declared.
Questions were raised over Pakistan’s decision to drop Tanvir, who is regarded among the most lethal bowlers in the country.
The selectors while announcing the 15-man squad for the Karachi Test last week had said that Tanvir is still not ready for Test cricket.
An inclusion in a reserve list is another lifeline for Shahid Afridi, who considered retirement from Test cricket after being overlooked for the original Test squad.
