Rs.3.5 bn sanctioned for new rail track in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla : The central government has sanctioned over Rs.350 crore (Rs.3.5 billion) for the proposed Bhanuppali-Bilaspur railway line in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said in the state assembly Thursday.

“The Railways informed us (the government) yesterday that Rs.350.33 crore has been sanctioned for starting work on first 20-km stretch of the railway line,” Dhumal said while making a suo-motu statement.

He said survey for the 63 km railway track, which was started in 1985, would be completed by this year.

The entire project would cost Rs.1,040 crore (Rs.10.4 billion), out of which Rs.785 crore (Rs.7.85 billion) would be spent by the Railways, while the rest would be borne by the state government.

“We hope that rail services on this track would start by 2015,” Dhumal said.
