Talking to reporters in Jammu, Sayeed said that PDP’s self rule was a vision and a road map to the solution of Jammu and Kashmir issue. The solution lies within self rule as it addresses both the internal dimension and with Pakistan administered Kashmir.

He said that self rule gives a direction to political empowerment, right from macro to micro levels.

Commenting on the National Conference-Congress alliance, the former chief minister said: “This alliance is not based on any programme and so far we do not know what their common minimum programme is.”

He said when PDP went for an alliance with Congress in 2002, it was a “programmatic alliance when we took three days to frame a common minimum programme before the formation of government.”

Sayeed said his party had been demanding revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and reduction of troops from Jammu and Kashmir since 2006. “Now with the whole house (legislative assembly) and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah agreeing to it, this vindicates our stand,” he said.

The PDP patron said that the Jammu and Kashmir assembly has a historic role to play for creating a situation conducive for resolution of the issue.
