Mumbai : Indian equities markets began the New Year with handsome gains Thursday, with a key index ending trade 2.74 percent higher than its previous close.
The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed in the green at 9,911.34 points (provisional), up 264.03 points or 2.74 percent from its previous close of 9,647.31 points.
The broader S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 2.46 percent to close at 3,032.05 points.
Other market indices also posted gains with BSE’s midcap index rising 2.52 percent over and the smallcap index moving up 3.56 percent.
