Police kill three men in Uttar Pradesh after gun battle

Lucknow : Three men were killed in an hour-long gun battle with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnore district early Thursday, police said.

“Two of the three killed in the encounter have been identified as Anees and Shadab, who had nearly 15 cases of murder, abduction and loot pending against them,” police inspector Jitendra Kumar told IANS on phone.

The third man killed in the gun battle that took place at about 1.30 a.m. in Naangalsoti village in Bijnore, about 250 km from here, is yet to be identified, Kumar added.

A rifle, three pistols, several live cartridges and ornaments worth Rs.60,000 were seized from the men.

The men were on a Pulsar motorcycle and allegedly opened fire on a police inspector when he tried to stop them during a vehicle checking drive. A deputy superintendent of police was injured in the battle and is undergoing treatment.
