The prime minister, who arrived here late in the evening, visited some of the injured at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. The three serial bomb blasts Thursday afternoon left six killed and around 50 injured.

“Let proper investigations be carried out, and whosoever is guilty, we’ll ensure that he or she is punished appropriately,” the prime minister told reporters after visiting the injured.

Answering a question about the possible involvement of the Bangladesh terror group Harkat-ul-jihad-al-Islami (HuJi) in the bombings, the prime minister said, “I will not like to comment on this, but all probabilities are being explored. But those involved will be brought to book.”

The prime minister will stay in the city overnight before leaving for Shillong to inaugurate the Indian Science Congress Saturday. Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who arrived a few hours after the blasts Thursday on a scheduled visit, has returned to the national capital.
