Israel Flattens Gaza Mosque, Houses

By Prensa Latina,

Gaza : A mosque, public buildings and 15 houses of alleged Hamas operatives were the target of the latest Israeli shelling on Gaza, where foreigners are beginning to exit the city amid speculation of a likely land invasion.

Sources from the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said a mosque located in al-Jabaliya refugee camp, in northern Gaza, was destroyed early morning, on the eve of Friday Muslim prayer.

Despite the attacks, hundreds of residents gathered today outside the mosque to pray.

At least 420 Palestinians have been killed and another 2,100 wounded in seven days of Israeli bombings, according to medical sources, with a UN spokesperson saying that at least a quarter of the fatalities are civilians, including a large number of children and women.

In the last few hours, the Islamic militants fired about twenty rockets against southern Israel, which has deployed vehicles and about 11,000 soldiers in the border with Gaza, in preparation for what seems to be an imminent land offensive.

Today Israel allowed about 440 foreigners and Palestinians carrying foreign passports to leave through the Erez chech point, while other families managed to return from Egypt through Rafah, despite the attacks.

Analysts consider Israel will maintain its declared purpose to destroy the Hamas infrastructure, but they also consider unrealistic to try to wipe out the Islamic movement and bet a new truce will be agreed between the parties.
