Madhya Pradesh may reduce farm loan rates: governor

By IANS,

Bhopal : Governor Balram Jakhar Wednesday indicated that Madhya Pradesh may lower the interest rates on farm loans, saying the government was committed to fulfil the promises made to the people.

Addressing the inaugural session of the 13th state assembly, Jakhar said the election results in the state showed the people have given their approval to “my government’s determination to build a new Madhya Pradesh”.

“My government fulfilled the promises that were made in the manifesto for the December 2003 state polls and the people gave their approval to the developmental works done by it in the last five years,” Jakhar said.

The government was also aiming to reduce production costs of the farmers and protect their income, he said, adding the interest rate on loan for farming may be reduced.

The state government, Jakhar said, has given priority to develop infrastructure, making agriculture profitable, increase investments, empower women and develop a strong law and order situation besides good governance.

The governor assured the house the government would provide jobs to all unemployed as per their education and ability.

Jakhar’s assurances and claims on the power front were, however, marked by comments from the Congress members who said that the entire state has been plunged into darkness and unscheduled power cuts have made the life of people miserable.

Earlier, when the house assembled in the morning, senior BJP leader Ishwardas Rohani was unanimously re-elected the speaker of the assembly.
