Raipur : Four officials, including three special police officers (SPOs), were killed by Maoist rebels in Chhattisgarh, the police said Thursday.
The killings were reported early Thursday from two separate areas of the state’s violence-hit Bijapur district of southern Bastar region.
“Two SPOs and a junior government official were killed at Eramangi area while another SPO was killed at Beljar village,” Pawan Deo, deputy inspector general for special intelligence branch (SIB) at police headquarters, told IANS.
The police estimate roughly 10,000 highly trained Maoist rebels operate in Bastar region, backed by another 35,000-40,000 cadre called ‘Sangham’ members.
