Aman Ullah, a local administration officer, was on his way to his office in Razmak, a town in troubled North Waziristan that borders Afghanistan, when assailants sprayed his vehicles with bullets.

Ullah and his guard died on the spot while another junior officer was rushed with multiple injuries to a hospital in Miranshah, the main town in the district, said an intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Hanif, a local who identified himself only by a single name, said the killing of the officials could be an action of Taliban militants who are eliminating anyone opposing them.

North Waziristan is a known stronghold of Taliban militants and a safe-haven for Al Qaeda terrorists, who have killed hundreds of security personnel, government officials, tribal elders and civilians in recent years.
