Three labourers killed in Delhi airport accident

New Delhi : Three labourers were killed and two others injured Friday when they were trapped during excavation works at the under construction terminal – T3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the police said.

Pushpender, Jatinder and Ravinder died while Umesh and Pran Singh suffered injuries when they fell into a drain near the construction site around 9.30 a.m. Friday. They were trapped inside as mud fell on them, the police said.

Pushpender and Jatinder died on the spot, while Ravinder succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital. The condition of two others was stated to be critical, the police said.

According to the police, all the victims were in their mid-20s and hail from Katni district in Madhya Pradesh.

Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) said they were in touch with the families of the deceased and providing all the necessary assistance.

“We have also asked Larsen & Toubro to investigate the incident and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. Supervision is being enhanced to further improve the safety at the sites,” DIAL said in a statement.
