Honolulu : Indian golfer Arjun Atwal carded a one-over 71 and went down the ladder to 50th place at the midway stage of the Sony Open here.
Atwal, who is making a comeback to the PGA Tour after a year, was hit by a poor front-nine and is now even-par 140 at the Waialae Country Club Friday.
Atwal opened with a bogey-brace on the second and third holes before dropping another stroke on the sixth. A birdie on the ninth was a consolation as he turned in two-over.
The back-nine was better with birdies on the 10th and 11th but he was once again pulled back by bogeys on the 12th and 13th. A birdie on last hole got him to 71.
The field was led by American Tom Pernice Jr. who shot a flawless 63 studded with five birdies and an eagle, shared the lead with Australian Nathan Green (66) with a two-round total of eight-under 132.
Overnight leader Shigeki Maruyama (68) and local Brian Gay were tied for the third spot, a shot behind the leading duo.
