Markets fall at opening bell

Mumbai : Indian equities markets fell into negative territory Wednesday, with the key index starting trade lower than its last closing figure.

The Sensex started at 8,900.78, points, lower than its 9,100.55-point close Tuesday. After about 10 minutes of trading, it was at 8,956.75 points, 1.58 percent or 143.8 points lower than its previous close.

At the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was at 2,751 points, 1.63 percent lower than its previous close of 2,796.6.
