PARIS, Jan 22 (KUNA) — France said it had no knowledge of Israeli naval attacks against northern Gaza and it urged both Israel and Hamas to respect the ceasefires they unilaterally declared in the territory.
Reports from the region said that Israeli gunboats had opened fire with machine guns into the north of the Gaza Strip and there were preliminary reports of wounded.
“We have no information at this stage on the firing you mention,” a French spokesman said in response to a KUNA enquiry.
“We call for the full respect of the cease fire by all the parties. We support the efforts of Egypt in view of arriving at a permanent ceasefire,” French Foreign Ministry Spokesman Frederic Desagneaux indicated. (
