Melbourne : Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson, following a fortnight’s rest, has been rushed back to join the one-day side for Friday’s match against South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Johnson’s return will axe Ben Hilfenhaus from the 12-man squad for the third match in the five-game series which is locked at 1-1.
“Mitchell will obviously come back in. A couple of weeks off he was obviously jumping out of his skin to get back in the nets to bat and bowl again,” Australia captain Ricky Ponting was quoted as saying in the Courier Mail.
“That is a good sign for us. (Nathan) Hauritz is in the 12-man squad and Hilfenhaus is the one who misses out.
“We have not announced our playing eleven yet. We will see what this weather does tomorrow before we actually play.”
The weather bureau is forecasting thunderstorms late Friday.
Australia: Shaun Marsh, David Warner, Ricky Ponting (captain), Mike Hussey, David Hussey, Cameron White, Brad Haddin, James Hopes, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Nathan Bracken, Shaun Tait. (12th man to be named before play on Friday).
