New Delhi : Former president R. Venkataraman died at the Army Research and Referral Hospital here Tuesday following prolonged illness, an official said. He was 98.
Venkataraman was admitted to the hospital on Jan 12. He was found to have e-coli urinary tract infection and sepsis, and also needed respiratory support.
Born Dec 4, 1910, Venkataraman was the eighth president of the country serving from 1987 to 1992. Before his election as president, he served as vice-president of the country for nearly four years.
