Amritsar : The Punjab police, on a tip-off from the Indian Music Industry (IMI), conducted searche at four places in this city Tuesday and seized nearly 25,000 pirated compact discs (CDs) and other electronic items.
An IMI spokesman said that pirated CDs, MP3s, DVDs and VCDs were confiscated by the raiding squads at four locations in the city.
The seizures include 12,590 DVDs, 12,060 CDs and over 8,300 inlay cards.
The police recovered titles and MP3s of various latest movies like ‘Raaz’, ‘Dostana’, ‘Singh is Kinng’, ‘Welcome’ and others.
The police have arrested one person for the seizures and piracy.
The IMI has claimed that piracy causes a loss of Rs.6 billion (Rs.600 crore) to the music and film industry annually. It has pointed out that new techniques like mobile chip piracy causes a loss of another Rs.3 billion (Rs.300 crore) annually.
