Kuala Lumpur : Opportunities that ethnic Indian artistes get on Malaysia’s television and radio network are inadequate, says the deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
The minister, T. Murugiah, was speaking after releasing the music album of “Shakti”, a Tamil tele-film produced by an ethnic Indian, a media report said Thursday.
Murugiah said more opportunities should be given to Malaysian Indian artistes on television and radio channels, Tamil language daily Makkal Osai reported.
He said it was disappointing that many local artistes were denied the opportunity to display their talent.
“Shakti”, a Tamil tele-movie, has been produced by Prem Prataban at Universiti Malaya.
Murugiah praised the producer of the tele-movie for making the film despite having no knowledge of the Tamil language.
The Indian community must encourage and fully support the artistes, and artistes should set aside their differences and work together to promote unity among the people, The Star quoted the minister as saying.
