Ahmedabad : Congress general secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi is visiting this Gujarat city Friday to woo youths in the state to join the party, a senior Congress party leader said Wednesday.
The Congress is conducting party elections in the state for its youth wing, said Ashok Tanwar, president of the All India Youth Congress.
Gujarat would be the second state after Punjab to conduct elections to the youth wing of the Congress.
Tanwar, who was in the city to chalk out an election programme, told reporters that the state unit of the party expects to woo around 600,000 youth for the Youth Congress drive under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
Gandhi is expected to administer oath to the youth pledging to fight terror, the biggest challenge the nation is facing, Tanwar said.
“It is the youth power the party is singularly focusing on,” Tanwar said.
“Channelising power of the youth in the age group of 18 to 35 years is our motive. Each one will get an identity card,” he said.
