New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday released a list of 48 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, taking to 96 the number of contestants it has announced so far.
The names were finalised at a meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee held at the party headquarters with party president Rajnath Singh in chair. Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani also attended the meet.
The party announced a list of 23 candidates, followed by another list of 25 later in the day.
The two lists have 17 candidates from West Bengal, 16 from Uttar Pradesh, nine from Karnataka, four from Uttarakhand, and one each from Goa and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar has also been given a ticket from South Bangalore seat in Karnataka.
The contestants include four women, eight Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates and one Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidate. The party has named its candidate for an SC seat in Uttarakhand.
The party also announced a candidate for a by-election to the Bishnupur West assembly seat in West Bengal.
