Seoul : A South Korean man who was arrested for murdering a student admitted to killing six other women, police officials in the northern Kyonggi province said Friday.
The 38-year-old said he raped his victims and then strangled them with a nylon stocking. The women had been reported missing between December 2006 and November 2008.
According to the official Yonhap news agency, the man, who has several previous convictions for different crimes, told police that he witnessed the death of his wife four years ago and since then felt the urge to kill out of frustration.
His wife was killed in a house fire. The man, who worked as a masseur, is also suspected to have started that fire.
He was arrested Sunday in connection with the disappearance of a student from his workplace in the city of Ansan, about 30 km south of Seoul.
The man confessed to having kidnapped and murdered the young woman in early December. Her body was found last week. His confession followed the detection of blood traces matching the DNA of a 48-year old missing housewife.
One of South Korea’s worst serial killers was arrested five years ago in Seoul and later sentenced to death for the murder of 20 people, mostly prostitutes and well-heeled citizens.
