Varsity Wins Sir Syed Memorial Debate Trophy at AMU

Bhopal: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore has won the Sir Syed Memorial Debate Trophy in All India Sir Syed Memorial Debate Competition 2009 organized by the University Literary Club of Aligarh Muslim University.

The debate was organized in English, Urdu and Hindi. The first prize for debate in English went to Naved Trambu and Ms. Tasleem Ara Wani of University of Kashmir while the second prize was won by Aditya Tiwari and Ms. Ruchil Pant of G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. The third prize went to Ms. Uzma and Syed Ahmar Raza of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. The special prize of Best Speaker was bagged by Syed Alihur M. Kamoonpuri of Aligarh Muslim University.

In Urdu debate, the first prize went to Mohammad Mukarram Shaheen and Mohammad Firdous Uskari of T. M. Bhagalpur University, Bihar while the second prize was won by Ziaullah Anwar and Abdul Basit Hamidi of Patna University, Patna. The third prize was won by Ms. Nadra Bano and Shahzad Akhtar Ansari of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. The special prize for Best Speaker was also bagged by Shahzad Akhtar Ansari of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.

In Hindi debate the first prize went to Ms. Haribala Paliwal and Ms. Ananya Mishra of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore while the second prize was won by Amit Tripathi and Amrendra Kumar Mishra of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University, Gorakhpur. The third prize went to Himanshu Singh and Mayank Agrawal of Dayal Bagh Educational Institute, Agra. The special prize of Best Speaker in this category was bagged by Yasir Imam of Aligarh Muslim University.

According to a Press release issued by Zeeshan Ahmad, Assistant Public Relations’ Officer AMU, the prize distribution ceremony was held at Kennedy Hall. Eminent poet and lyricist Prof. Shaharyar was the chief guest on this occasion while Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor, AMU, presided over the function. Prof. Abul Kalam Qasmi, Coordinator, General Education Centre, AMU welcomed the guests and Dr. Siraj Ajmali, president of Literary Club proposed the vote of thanks. Shaad Ahmad Khan conducted the programme. Organizing Secretary, Ms. Afshan Majid declared the name of the winners and the Secretary of University Literary Club, Ms. Maria Salman presented the annual report of the Club.
