Youth should be torch bearers of non-violence: M.S. Gill

By IANS,

New Delhi : Minister for Youth Affairs M.S. Gill Friday called upon the youth to carry forward the message of ‘ahimsa’ (non-violence) through which the menace of terror could be eliminated.

“We are the youngest nation in the world. America and the whole world is looking on us. We should be the torch-bearers of ahimsa. We should spread these words of Mahatma Gandhi in the entire world,” Gill told a gathering of youth assembled here from different parts of the country to campaign against terrorism and violence.

Around 1,000 youth, two each from 500 districts of the country, attended the concluding ceremony of a campaign “Together for Peace”, launched by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS).

The country-wide campaign was launched Dec 18 in a bid to mobilise youth against terrorism in the wake of the Mumbai terror strike.

The youth presented a national charter against terrorism consisting of three points – role of youth in combating terrorism, role of civil society and expectations from the government – to the minister.
