Lucknow : At least 13 people were killed and four injured when the truck they were travelling in went off the road and fell into a ditch in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district Sunday, police said.
The mishap took place around 5 a.m. Sunday in the Fatehganj area of Bareilly, about 250 km from here.
“The truck in which the people were travelling was laden with iron rods. Most of the people killed have deep injury marks caused by the iron rods,” district police chief Piyush Mordiya told IANS on telephone.
He said four injured people are being treated in a district hospital.
The deceased have yet not been identified and were probably given lift by the truck driver, he added.
“The number plate of the truck shows the vehicle was registered with Uttar Pradesh transport department,” Superintendent of Police rural S.B. Pathak told IANS.
