Sounds amazing. But according to officials, over a dozen government offices in this district of the state owe about Rs.14 crore to the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board (UPSEB).

The dues, according to UPSEB executive engineer Hari Mohan Tyagi, are pending since years.

Tyagi said the topper among defaulters is the State Tube Wells department, which has been avoiding payment of bills since long and at present it has to pay about Rs.11 crore.

He said it was difficult to calculate how much of the debt includes penalty but “notices will be issued soon with specific details to defaulting departments”.

The defaulting departments, officials said, are equipped with air conditioners.
