New Delhi: Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Ahmed Bukhari has announced to visit the Rohini Mosque in North-West Delhi’s Rohini area on Wednesday to show solidarity with the local Muslims who have been under pressure from the Hindutva activists to stop offering prayers on the recently acquired land for a mosque in Sector 16.
Assuring a delegation of the Darsgah Islami Intezamia Committee, a registered group in whose name the Delhi Development Authority has released the land, Imam Bukhari said he would write to DDA chairman and Lt Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna in this regard.
While the committee was handed over the land by the DDA after completion of all formalities, some local property developers in collaboration with some Hindutva activists have been opposing the mosque in the Hindu-dominated area of Rohini where Muslims are around 10,000 in several lakh population. Since June 15 last when the namaz was established here, the miscreants have tried to forcibly prevent namazis from offering prayers. The police, however, has not allowed them to spoil the situation there. A ring of heavy security has been thrown around the mosque.
Meanwhile Ballimaran MLA Shoaib Iqbal has announced he would offer next Juma Prayer in the Rohini Mosque. The Masjid committee delegation has also met him.
