New Delhi : The Indian Army Monday ordered an inquiry into the firing during a recruitment drive a day ago in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh in which one person was killed and another injured.
Many candidates at the army’s recruitment camp in Chandauli district Sunday had indulged in arson and vandalism alleging irregularities in the screening of candidates, forcing the military police to open fire.
“We have ordered a court of inquiry into the incident,” a senior Indian Army official said, requesting anonymity.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony told parliament Monday that the incident would be probed.
“The incident is unfortunate. We will look into it,” said Antony.
After the firing, candidates began targeting trains at the Chandauli railway station. Chandauli is about 300 km from Lucknow.
