Lucknow : A group of young men gathered at a post office in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar district went on a rampage Thursday, protesting a delay in distribution of application forms for jobs in the police force.
The men, gathered in Akbarpur area of the district, threw stones at policemen, following which the police resorted to a baton charge to disperse the mob.
The protesters also resorted to vandalism and arson at several places in the district, 160 km from the state capital.
“We have arrested five to six youths, who resorted to violence over the alleged delay in distribution of police recruitment forms,” district police chief R.K. Swarnkar told IANS on phone.
Additional securitymen have been deployed in the district, he added.
